History and Activities

Moving on was established in 1998 to provide support to young people who are either homeless or are at risk of becoming homeless. The charity provides support through three core areas of operation including; an outreach service, a supported housing programme and a lettings service.

In 2016-7 their outreach programme helped 421 young people. 71 of these were helped into supported accommodation and 154 offers of accommodation were made. As well as their community-based outreach work, they provide accommodation for 56 people through their Moving on housing programme which provides tenancies for young people who would otherwise be deemed to be too high a risk for landlords. The third spoke of their work is a purposefully built letting agency which was established in 2016 after receiving a grant of £44,000 from the Virgin Money Foundation.

The charity funds its activities principally from the subsidised rental income it receives from tenants. This reflects £355,596 of a £585,049 total income. The remainder of the charities income is derived from grants, which in 2017 totalled £113,000. £110,000 of this amount is able to go towards directly funding projects. The largest sponsors include the Ballinger Trust (£30,000), Virgin Money (£24,679) and the Lloyds Foundation (£24,373).
